As such the first step in a fat augmentation procedure is liposuction to extract the fat prior to injection.  After the fat cells are harvested, injection takes only a few moments per site.  An improved appearance is visible almost immediately, although minor swelling or bruising may appear at the injection site and may last as long as a few weeks.  These effects can be alleviated with topical icing.
