Restore volume to get a more youthful and healthy appearance
Time waits for no one and as we age, our skin naturally loses volume and as a result some areas of the face such as the temples, cheeks and lower eyelids appear sunken and gaunt. Human fat, harvested from your own body can be re-injected to enhance facial fullness, fill deep creases and to build up shallow contours.
Fat augmentation is a more extensive procedure than other injectable fillers because it uses liposuction techniques to extract the fat prior to injection. Treatment results last up to two years or more in some cases.
If you're considering fat augmentation, this outline will give you a basic understanding of the procedure, when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions since a lot depends on the individual patient and the surgeon. Dr. Walker is more than happy to clarify any misunderstandings, please contact her office with any questions or concerns you may have.
What happens during fat augmentation?
For fat augmentation, human fat, harvested from your own body is re-injected to your face to enhance fullness, fill deep creases and to build up shallow contours.
As such the first step in a fat augmentation procedure is liposuction to extract the fat prior to injection. After the fat cells are harvested, injection takes only a few moments per site. An improved appearance is visible almost immediately, although minor swelling or bruising may appear at the injection site and may last as long as a few weeks. These effects can be alleviated with topical icing.
The best candidates for fat augmentation
The best candidates for fat augmentation suffer from a loss of facial volume demonstrated by deep facial creases, under eye dark circles, hollow cheeks, and temples.
It is important that anyone who seeks fat augmentation have adequate fat deposits on their buttocks, abdomen or legs from which fat can be harvested and then moved to the face.
Additionally the best candidates for fat augmentation are also in good health and at a stable, healthy weight.
