Plastic surgery includes three primary types of procedures.
Cosmetic surgery is a form of plastic surgery to one's face or body to improve your appearance and self-esteem that involves general or local anesthesia, as well as surgical techniques such as incisions or significant alteration of the skin or underlying tissues.
Reconstructive surgery uses some of the same techniques and may often have similar outcomes, but is performed on abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. It is done to improve functions, but may also be done to approximate a normal appearance.
Aesthetic procedures are non-surgerical and non-invasive methods for reducing the effects of aging, sun damage or conditions of the skin.
